Syracuse quarterback Kyle McCord was named the Associated Press Player of the Week, the publication announced Monday. The honor comes after McCord’s stellar showing in SU’s 42-38 upset win over then-No. 8 Miami. The quarterback completed 26-of-36 passes for 380 yards and three touchdowns.
McCord’s performance came on the same day his former team, then-No. 2 Ohio State, scored just 10 points in a shocking loss to Michigan. He joked postgame that “everything comes full circle” when asked about his performance compared to the Buckeyes’.
This season with SU, McCord has been one of the best quarterbacks in the country. He leads the nation in passing yards with 4,326 while setting SU’s single-season program record. In seven games this year, McCord has tossed for at least 350 yards. Against UConn on Nov. 23, he threw a season-high 470, just 12 yards shy of Eric Dungey’s single-game program record. McCord’s 29 passing touchdowns are also the most in Syracuse history for a single season.
He’s also helped spearhead Syracuse’s turnaround in Fran Brown’s first season at the helm. The Orange’s nine victories are their most since winning 10 games in 2018.
