Benjamin: 3 potential Tom Brady biopics

Few people have dominated the news in 2015 like Tom Brady. He has had some high highs, like winning the Super Bowl, some low lows, like being suspended four games, and even more highs, like having said suspensions revoked.

Following Brady this year has been a roller coaster, but his life as a whole is quite extraordinary. Now, Brady could be written about in history books, but there’s an even better way to capture the legacy of a human being: to make a biopic about him. The question is, which biopic should be made, theoretically? Let’s go through the options.

“Tom Brady”

Directed by: Danny Boyle (“Steve Jobs,” “Slumdog Millionaire”)

Starring: Michael Fassbender as Tom Brady

In the film “Tom Brady,” the focus would not be on Brady’s entire life, but it will be a more focused view on life-changing events. We would see the night of his first Super Bowl win, the night he loses the Super Bowl to Helmet Catch and finally, the night before the 2015 AFC Championship where we would see him, or we wouldn’t see him, handle the deflated balls.

Danny Boyle would direct these scenes with extremely high energy and we could expect them to be chalk full of witty dialogue. Though Michael Fassbender does not necessarily look like Brady, Fassbender is the acting version of a chameleon. He can take on any role despite the physical limitations and make it seem right. He might have to hide his Irish accent, but Fassbender would dive so deep in the role we would think of him as Tom Brady more than we think of Tom Brady as Tom Brady. This intensity would make Brady’s life a focused, but thrilling ride.

“The Brady Bunch”

Directed by: David O. Russell (“Silver Linings Playbook,” “American Hustle,” “The Fighter”)

Starring: Bradley Cooper as Tom Brady

In “The Brady Bunch,” we would see the more emotional side of Tom Brady’s life. David O. Russell likes to focus on not only what our jobs are, but how we relate to and deal with each other. This film would explore Brady’s relationship with his teammates and with his family, as he balances being the ultimate success under an extremely critical public eye. Bradley Cooper is the hottest actor in Hollywood right now and though, as a die-hard Eagles fan, this role might be tough, Cooper has time and time again proven himself to any detractors. Bradley Cooper and David O. Russell are one of the most formidable actor-director pairs in Hollywood right now and audiences would flock to see them tackle such a high-profile story. Throw in Jennifer Lawrence as Giselle and we could have a real winner on our hands.

“The Patriot”

Directed by: Ben Affleck (“Argo,” “The Town”)

Starring: Ben Affleck as Tom Brady

While Bradley Cooper and David O. Russell are a great actor-director pair, another extremely hot coupling is Ben Affleck and Ben Affleck, as seen in best picture winner “Argo.” Affleck is directing himself in the upcoming “The Batman,” so if he can take on a fictional character as iconic as Batman, he can certainly take on a real one such as Brady. As a director, Affleck has a superb ability to make everything epic.

Even a scene that is just basic dialogue is exciting and sharp under Affleck’s eye. More so though, Affleck is a Bostonian through and through. His film would focus on Brady the person, yes, but even more so his importance for the Boston and general New England region. Affleck would display Brady with grit and determination, while also showing class and finesse. This film would be fun and exciting, but would also have a sentimental touch, showing audiences why Tom Brady is so important. Which Tom Brady film would get you in the theaters? Comment below. In case you’re wondering about my opinion, I think I will just sit them all out until I get the Matt Ryan biopic.
