Bicyclist not injured in Tuesday collision

The Syracuse University student who struck a woman on a bicycle with a car Tuesday night will not face any criminal charges, said Lt. Joe Cecile of the Syracuse Police Department.

Matthew O’Donnell, a graduate student in information studies, hit the woman as she was crossing the intersection of Stratford Street and Ackerman Avenue at about 11:15 p.m.

The bicyclist, Kathryn Chesebrough, a State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry student, suffered injuries to her knees and head, Cecile said. She appeared fine immediately after the incident and was taken to University Hospital around midnight Wednesday, said Sgt. Stan Prue of SU’s Department of Public Safety.

A witness at the scene told police that Chesebrough did not yield to a stop sign at the intersection. O’Donnell’s vehicle had no time to stop, Cecile said.

Cecile said intoxication was not a factor in the accident.
